Hobie Europeans, Breitenbrunn, Austria

Friday 5th of August

We arrived in the night of Thursday actually, a few Italian sailors arrived there too (some with 4 Hobie 16's on one trailor, really bizar...). It was raining and it was completely dark over there, so we decided to sleep in the car (some of us in the trailer). Friday everybody was getting his boat ready for Saturday...here you see Sappie ready to go!
Saturday 6th of August

First day of the women Europeans. Good breeze, going fast.

Sunday 7th of August

No breeze...so no races :(.

We became 5th women team, not what we wanted, but we were pretty happy with our performance on saturday.

Because we were free on monday and tuesday, we decided to go for a drink in a nice little cocktailbar. We were joined by Jason, Josh, Macca, Joep, Olivier and Gijs.

On this foto, Josh is trying to get the music louder...but then the bar chick came back and he ran away like a girl.

Monday 8th of August

A free day...so we decided to go to Bratislava, which was only 30 minutes away. We visited the beautiful Bratislava Castle and the city of Bratislava, where we act like real tourists :)

Back home Julie and I prepared a nice diner for everybody, jammmmmmmm......

Finishing this lovely day with a nice drink in our disco tent!

Wednesday 10th of August

We received the Goldfleet sails, this year in the colors of Austria in the top and the colors of YCBB (Yaught Club Breitenbrunn). The first races for the Goldfleet started, lots of breeze, with gusts up to almost 30 knots!! The second race we flipped over, and Julie got hurt really badly, so we went back and missed some races.
Thursday 11th of August

It started with no breeze...postponement.
When people have to wait, they get bored. When they get bored, they find themselves something to do: 1. Who can catch the first wasp that nibbles on a gummy bear? 2. Let's do a bet, who loses has to drink everything out of a green cup for the rest of the week. At the end of the afternoon they make us sail 2 races with just 6 knots....whicked...

Friday 12th and Saturday 13th of August
No breeze again.....so we enjoyed ourselves in the Neusiedlersee :).
To end this day with a little party party! Knowing there will be no breeze on Saturday too.

And so it was...but they let us go on the water, where we waited for several hours...and then the Europeans were finished....only 6 races....that's really bad.....

But in the end, some of us won a price. Macca and Froukje became 3th and Jason and Josh 2th in the F18 fleet. Happy happy joy joy!!

After the price giving ceremony we left for a long trip back home....

Boyfriend/Girlfriend Sailing

Imagine you have a boyfriend or girlfriend who shares the same interests as you...I think it's a very good base for a happy relationship! Imagine it's Catamaran sailing: it's spectacular, intense, fun, exciting, sometimes extreme, not for pussies (no offense) and a real teamsport (you really need to trust eachother completely).

To have a boyfriend or girlfriend who shares this interest is a real blessing, because he or she understands you, is crazy as you are, likes challenges, never gives up, etc...BUT!!!...to do it together can be tricky ;).
But this weekend Mischa and I (Sanne) sailed the Open Belgian Hobie Championship together, and I can tell you...we survived it!! Not only did we survived eachothers stressreactions (lol), with between the 15 and 40 knots (yes, it really was 40 knots sometimes, really crazy, and extreme ;)) of breeze, we had a lot of fun! Who can say he or she does this kind of things with his or her loved one!! Well??

maandag 27 juni 2011

We SURVIVED the round of Texel...

...which started with around 25 knots of breeze....yeah, the weathergods weren't really with us...BUT we really wanted to go and it was pretty exciting!! We made three double one eightee kick front flips, which I think looked really cool...but it was also pretty exhausting. The result: we rounded the island!!

We'll post some NICE pictures of this event very soon!!!

SAPPH photoshoot

Today we were at the photoshoot of SAPPH lingerie. We saw some beautiful models at work; striking poses, wearing different peaces of lingerie...it was pretty exciting to watch. And then it was our turn: they turned two 'innocent' sail-girls into real divas! And then we had this little photoshoot and filmshoot...now we're waiting for the result......so don't forget to peek sometimes on our blog ;)

3th place North Sea Regatta 2011

This weekend we've sailed the North Sea Regatta at Scheveningen.
Saturday was the first day of te event. The first and third race we did quit a good job. The second race we had a bad start and we didn't came back in the up or downwind. We ended the day with our 'SAPPH-borrel' and a performance of Anouk (famous dutch singer). Sunday we had 4 races. We sailed the first race very bad. We endend in the back. The other 3 races we had the same results as the day before: 3-2-5. Today was an exciting day. The first race we sailed not very well. We came back in the first race, we finished as 3th boat. The last race we had some trouble with the mainsheet, we couldn't fix it on the water and sailed the downwind with a closed sail. We finished as last boat. We thought we lost our 3th position overall with that last race. But when we where at the pricegiving and they called our names for the 3th place, we where very relieved and happy!

SAPPH borrel

Everyday day you are able to SAIL, is a day you have to remind yourself of how lucky you are to have this possibility!! Because of that, and because of the fact that during the North Sea Regatta in 2010 the whole idea of a new ladies team was born, we invited all sailors to our 'SAPPH-Julie-Sanne's way of life'  BORREL (=drink). We want to thank Rob Heilbron (SAPPH), Hobiecat Holland and all sailors who joined us at our borrel!!!

Tomorrow the 3th day of the North Sea Regatta, fingers crossed!!

Kust Zeil Evenement (Coast Sail Event) 2011

This weekend we had the 'Kust Zeil Evenement' in Hoek van Holland. On Thursday and Friday we had a trainingday to get used to the sea and the waves. Saturday: first eventday, 16-19 knots, waves and a lot of sun. First race didn't went well, but the 2th and 3th race we sailed much better.

After the first eventday we went to the Summer Jazz Festival in Leiden, where we met de band: 'Good Luck' from South Africa.....they were amazing!!! But Jules Deelder (Dutch poet and writer) did well too...

Sunday: second eventday, less breeze than Saturday but much bigger waves...and no sun...BUT, we did quite a good job. At the end we won 3th place! (Serie: 5, 2, 2, 3, 2, 4. The 5 has been discarded) We worked really hard this weekend, we gave it the best we could, so we look back with a satisfied feeling to this event.
Next week North Sea Regatta!!!

Step Up Days Pics

Giving instructions about what to wear, how to wear sailing gear, the basic rules on board, how to stand in trapeze, where to stand, what to grab if you fall ;)

After all instructions preparing for take off...
And there they go!!

Julie gave them a real Hobie 16  experience, a lot of Big Smiles came off the water....ehe, that's a Hobie way of life...

...and we are really lucky to have this Hobie way of life and we were really happy that we could give other people this feeling for one day.

Eurocat 2011 Carnac: 1th Hobie 16 ladies team Long Distance Race

After a short night of sleeping yesterday, we where driving home to the Netherlands. We had a great weekend with pretty results.
Friday we’ve had 3 short races. The first race we start not very well. We took the wrong side and finished in the back. The second race we did much better. We start as one of the first boats and finished as 6th hobie 16. The last race was cancelled in the last downwind. There was no wind anymore. We ended the day in de Flamenco to celebrate Queens night.

Saturday was the long distance. We had a bad start, but came back when we made our first tack and had free wind. We finished as 4th hobie 16 and first hobie 16 ladies team!!! (There were 37 Hobie 16's)

Sunday we started at 9.00 o'clock. It was raining and we had 20knots of wind. After the first race we had some trouble with Julie’s trapezehook. We had to go back and fixed it. When we arrived at the mainland we found out we didn’t checked in (we know...stupid...it won't happen again...). We reduced our boat and watched the f18 match. Sappie is now at hobie in Noordwijk, because a Hobie dragoon bit him in the right hull, and that hurt a little bit...but he's gonna be OK!

Last trainingweekend --> Next week matchreports!!!

Next week we start with the 'Spring Cup' in Muiderzand. We used this last weekend to prepare the boat for racing and pimp it up a little bit (and the color pink has played a major role in it ;)...).
Today was a beautiful day for sailing, lots of sun and about 10 knots (see video).
Next week finally matchreports, so keep an eye on this blog!!!

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!

From now on we're writing our stories in english, so everybody can follow our Blog, jiihaaaaaaa!! If it's not all correct english, just find your way through the stories, I'm sure you'll get the clue ;).

This weekend it was finally good enough to GET WET!!! The sun was shining, 8 degrees, not a lot of breeze, but enough to make it a good trainingday. The subjects of this training were: sailing backwards, positioning in the starting area and starts. Sailing backwards went well. Positioning in the starting area was a challenge with a lot of F18's, we learned a lot. But our trainings schedule would't be complete without our famous gymnastic trics. Well...they didn't went very smoothly this first training, the winterperiod made us kind a like Pinocchio, but I'm sure it will get better in the next few weeks.

So watch us!!!!

Let's get wet!

Dat verbaast me niets. Zelden zo nat geworden. Let's Get Wet!!! Ik had het kunnen weten. Wij bedanken Sapph en Hobie Cat Holland voor het vertrouwen en de enorme kans die ons geboden is.

Groetjes Sanne & Julie

How the story begins...
