Eurocat 2011, Carnac (day 1)

 Yesterday we arrived in Carnac (France) for the Eurocat 2011. The sun was shining and the weather was fantastic!! And it still is.... :).
We built up our boat and meet our fellow sailors.

At 00:00 o'clock it was Froukje Feenstra her 18th Birthday. We celebrated this in 'the Flamingo'. It was a great party.

Today we had a morning and afternoon training session. During the first session we tested our new black gennaker. Oscar Zeekant and Karel Begeman (F18) trained us in the afternoon. We learned a lot from them, so we are prepared for tomorrow, so....fingers crossed!!

6th place Springcup



First boat ready for take offff....

 Ok...at the end we where 6th (but 1th Hobie 16) in the Springcup (results: 8, 1, 2, 5, 10, 2th place), not bad...but we expected more of it. We draw 2 conclusions after this weekend; 1th: Dart 18's can sail soooooo freaking high to the wind when there's less then 8 knots of breeze (we sailed with multiple classes on handicap, among Dart 18's as well). Unfortunatly it happened a lot during the Springcup...happily ever after we sailed lots better with a little more breeze. 2th: We just need to practice light weather sailing more :). We hope Rob Heilbron (from SAPPH) can teach us someday, because he knows how to sail this kind of weather (he once won the Hobie16 Europeans 2002 and the Round of Texel with light breeze).

This Tuesday we are leaving to Carnac (France) for the Eurocat 2011 cup. We are really excited and we can't wait to go there! For all sailors: hope to see you there!!!!!

Weekend 16th/17th of April Report

The F18 Teamrace Knock Out was a BIG succes!! For all the people who weren't there or didn't see it on the internet live stream: you missed a big one! The whole spectacle was in front of the Sail Today at Muiderzand, we were almost able to touch the boats when they rounded the buoy. Ok....about our races...mmmm....let's start with the comment that we were not really happy with our performance this weekend. Saturday: again No Wind, No Fun, so no races this day. Sunday it started around the 6 knots. Our first race was not so bad, we were 3th at the gate...but we missed the flag that says: the course has been shortened...how stupid!! So we were going to the upwind mark....while all the boats behind us were going to the finish, aaarrrggghhhh!!!

Well, we made that up in our last race :). At this point we are on 5th place of 23 boats. Next week we need to be more focussed. Friday and Saturday will be trainingdays, Sunday the last day of the Spring cup...wish us luck...

Today was an exceptional day for sailing. The 10 kts. of wind was perfect for our weight of 112 kg.

In the first race we had some difficulties getting the spinnaker back in. Because of this we couldn't make it to the upwind mark and lost a lot of our upwind position. After all we finished 8th.

The second race we had a good start.

We reached the upwind mark in first position and held on to the first position the whole race.

We ended the day with a second overall position. In the current ranking we are 3rd.
